Tata Loadbeta Pick-up and Double Cab TATA has significantly increased its range of rugged light commercial vehicles in the UK since its debut in 1994. Twelve models comprise the full
line-up, covering a wide range of applications for the commercial vehicle user. The Loadbeta Pick-up provides the bedrock for the range with four versions available. The entry level Loadbeta Pick-up 2.0i includes a normally aspirated diesel engine, five-speed gearbox and 1000kg payload. For those seeking the
same load performance but with extra security, TATA also offers the Loadbeta Hardtop option, which comes equipped with a locking Truckman Top above the load bed. The Loadbeta Pick-up 2.0TDi has a turbocharged two-litre
engine boasting 90PS and copious amounts of torque. Payload is increased to 1,140kg. Topping the pick-up range is the four-wheel drive Loadbeta Pick-up 2.0TDi 4x4, boasting similar 2.0TDi power and a simple to use
all-wheel drive system. In normal road driving, the vehicle operates in two-wheel drive, thanks to the fitment of free-wheeling front hubs. Four-wheel drive is activated by a dashboard-mounted thumbwheel switch.
Four-wheel drive low range is selected with the vehicle stationary by turning the same switch. The Loadbeta Chassis Cab is the basis for Dropside and Tipper versions. TATA introduced the Loadbeta Double Cab 2.0TDi
for those seeking a vehicle with more accommodation than a conventional pick-up. It has four-doors, seating for up to five people and a comprehensive standard specification. The Loadbeta Double Cab 2.0TDi 4x4 boasts
an 1000kg payload capability while the Loadbeta Double Cab 2.0TDi 4x2 has the highest payload figure of any new 4x2 Double Cab model in the UK at 1,080kg. With the introduction of the long-wheelbase Loadbeta Double
Cab Pick-up last year, TATA overcame the problem of transporting five burly workmates and all their gear. The 2000 Loadbeta Double Cabs claim the lowest price of any Double Cab range in the UK - representing a saving
of at least £6,000 over rivals. The basis for the Loadbeta Double Cab is its strong ladder chassis, which is common through all derivatives. The inherent strength of the chassis contributes to the versatility of the
range and is the reason why TATA offers a Chassis Cab unit without the pick-up bed, which is suitable for a wide range of one-off conversions. The Double Cab range is powered by a Peugeot-derived two-litre
diesel engine which is turbocharged and intercooled to develop a respectable 90bhp and 140lb ft of torque - enough to put rival engines of much larger capacity to shame. The engine is built under licence at TATA's
assembly plant at Pune, India, where the company regularly assembles in excess of 200,000 commercial vehicles annually. |
